During our recent family vacation, we chose Azumaya Ryokan, hoping for a cozy experience. While the location was decent-about a ten-minute walk to Kyoto station-our room faced a wall, which was a letdown. The Ryokan is designed with families in mind. Our private room comfortably housed my three sons, and having a traditional Japanese bathhouse available was a nice touch for the kids. They especially enjoyed renting the robes. We did appreciate the friendly staff who assisted us with luggage storage on our last day, as we had a few hours to spare before our train. It was disappointing that we couldn't wait in the lobby post-checkout. Although the on-site breakfast was missing, nearby Family Mart provided convenient options. While there are better views and breakfast options in the area, Azumaya Ryokan offered a unique experience, especially for families looking to immerse themselves in Japanese culture. A bit of rain made our walks challenging, especially with little ones, but the charm of Kyoto made it all worthwhile.
